Know the history of the streets with strange names in Delhi, one of them is named Gunwali Gali

Gauhar/DelhiIt is difficult to say when the era of stories and tales started in Old Delhi, but these stories have flourished and grown in the narrow lanes of Old Delhi. We can say this with certainty. With the passage of time, people have moved ahead in the race of development, but these stories are still very famous in Old Delhi. Especially the stories of the streets with strange names of Old Delhi and the history associated with them are very famous in the whole of Delhi and the country, but now the new generation of this era has forgotten it. Therefore, today in this report we have tried to bring the stories of all these streets in front of you one by one.

Bulbuli Food Lane
It is called Bulbul-e-Khana ki Gali. Irshad Alam, director of Talent Group, which has brought storytelling alive in Old Delhi, says that this street is home to many stories. It is said that three bulbuls used to live here. Today, the bulbuls are not seen here, but yes, people are crazy about birds. You will see flocks of pigeons on the roofs. This is where the tomb of Razia Sultana, the first woman ruler of Delhi, is.

gun alley
It is not clear why Kucha Pandit got the name Bandku Wali Gali. Some people associate it with the 1857 revolution. Some people say that earlier people used to live here who had guns. This is also the reason why it got the name Bandku Wali Gali. Historian RV Smith says that there are only speculations behind these names and not theories.

tamarind lane
It is said that earlier there used to be a hill in Old Delhi, which was called Bhojla Pahari. There was a big tamarind tree on top of this hill. Now there is neither a hill nor a tamarind tree, but the street is still known as Pahari Imli. Not only this, even today trees of jamun, mulberry, neem etc. are seen in front of the houses here. However, as the population increased, the size of the houses kept on getting smaller.

Arena Street
Although many akhadas are still present in Old Delhi, the history of Akhara Wali Gali is unique. Actually, there were many akhadas in this street. It is said that women were not allowed to enter the akhadas. With the changing times, the existence of these akhadas is vanishing. The akhadas located in Akhara Wali Gali itself have been replaced by gyms.

Kallu Khasab Gali
There is a lane in Old Delhi which is named after a criminal. Local resident Jamal Ahmed says that it is said that there was a criminal named Kallu. People were terrified due to his fear. Due to this, this lane was named Kallu Gali.

horse street
Ghode Wali Gali is located on Goshala Road in Karol Bagh. Horses are reared here, that too for 100 years. If the local residents are to be believed, this is a 100-year-old business of many families. However, the number of such families is very less here now. There are about 35 horses here. There are the same number of horses in Sat Nagar of Karol Bagh. While passing through the street here, you can easily see how passionately people raise horses here. On Thursdays, a large number of horses go from here to the mazar near Gulab Vatika at ITO. Where these horses are made to run on the road. In a way, it can be called a trial of the race. Here people bid on the horses participating in the race and then their race takes place in some other area of Delhi.
